Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman and Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto, along with Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, inaugurated Kakri Sports Complex, famously known as Kakri Ground, Lyari on Wednesday in Karachi.
The upgraded Kakri Sports Complex boasts several remarkable features that would enhance the sporting experience and overall well-being of the community with the upgradation and addition of additional spaces to achieve diversity.
The complex includes an upgraded and rehabilitated soccer ground with proper levelling, increased size, improved drainage and a surface covered with state-of-the-art Artificial Turf of an international brand.
Existing stadiums have been retrofitted by providing architectural surface textured tiles, accompanied by the construction of a new pavilion to accommodate large crowds during national and international football events.
Practice football grounds with a grass field, and LED flood lights for night play provision are carefully designed to meet the needs of football enthusiasts.
Rehabilitation of two parks, Pitcher Park and Allah Rakha Park, are also retrofitted with the installation of utilities, and provision of restrooms, making these accessible to the public.
Security fences, boundary walls, and architectural steel gates are put to ensure the security of the grounds and other premises.
The installation of floodlights and supporting infrastructure, facilitating night matches and practice sessions are also done.
A complete water supply, stormwater drainage and sewerage disposal system have also been implemented for the sustainability of the Sports Complex.
CM Murad emphasised the public should respect the assets being upgraded and the caretakers to maintain them to their new condition to achieve sustainability so that the Government of Sindh can focus to upgrade other areas with the investment.
Newly elected Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, with the backing of his party PPP, led development work at the Kakri ground in Lyari. Kakri ground is one of the oldest grounds in Karachi, which also served as the site for Benazir Bhutto and Asif Ali Zardari's wedding ceremony.
